Philanthropy

Community Service & Philanthropy:

Tri-delta takes part in numerous activities throughout the year in support our philanthropies. Our local philanthropy is the Potter’s House, which is a local coffee shop that was established as a safe and comfortable environment for college students. Our national philanthropy is St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

“In November 1999, Tri Delta officially adopted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® as its national philanthropic partner. Since that time, Tri Delta’s members have raised more than $9.1 million to support St. Jude.”
“In September 2002, Tri Delta’s Executive Board members agreed to a four-year $1 million endowment for the hospital’s Teen Room. Exceeding expectations, the endowment was completed in fewer than three years. The Teen Room is a haven for patients to get away from parents, nurses and doctors, and to be with kids their own age. The endowment from Tri Delta allowed the room to be equipped with Internet, video games, stereos and ample lounging areas that teenagers love.”

Tri Delta

“In July 2006, Tri Delta announced its new fundraising goal – to raise $10 million over the next 10 years to name the Patient Care Floor in the new Chili’s Care Center. The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the Chili’s Care Center includes 18 new inpatient suites. These suites feature adjoining parent rooms with windows into patient rooms, private baths for the patient and their family and two flat screen TVs. Other amenities available on the floor include the hospital’s main pharmacy, two nurse stations, a family lounge, an education office, a teen room and a play area.”

Sincerely Yours Letter Writing Campaign

Each fall Tri Delta hosts a campus wide letter writing campaign. Students bring their address books and start personalizing and addressing pre-written letters requesting funds to support St. Jude. We provide snacks, turn up the music, tell you about the cause you are supporting, and everyone has a great job helping out St. Jude Children’s Hospital! Last year the campus letters raised almost $9,000 and our chapter raised over $10,000 with our letters alone! It’s only because of each member’s passion for St. Jude that our relatively small chapter is able to raise such a large amount of funds!

Shave for the Brave

In the spring of 2011 our philanthropy chairman at the time, Micheala Steinmetz, initiated a new event  for our chapter on campus to raise awareness of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the constant struggle their patients endure on a daily basis, including the traumatic experience of losing their hair. Since these kids so often have to shave their heads from the intense chemotherapy sessions, we wanted to reverse this by having one guy from each fraternity volunteer to have his head shaved. Each fraternity was given the task to raise the most money out of all the fraternities and whichever raised the most was exempt from the shave. Our Greek gentleman did awesome by raising a total amount of $1,000! Although Lambda Chi Alpha raised the most money, their volunteer Eli Hokanson agreed have his head shaved anyways. St. Jude patients and cancer survivors Davis and Megan did the shaving!
